Spending Money in Thailand

The Thai Baht, ATM's, Currency Exchange Services and Helpful Information for Medical Tourists

Visitors from all over the world come to Thailand for vacation.. and Medical Treatments ranging from general to very specific in world-class facilities by top notch providers.  Credit Cards and Travelers Cheques are the usual method of payment for procedures not covered by insurance but it is always a good idea to have some 'walking around' money, especially for taxi fare and street vendors.

Thai Coins are 1, 2, 5 and 10 baht coins and satangs of 50 and 25. Satangs are 1/4 of one baht and are not widely used.


Thai Dollar Bills come in 20, 50, 100, 500 and 1000 baht denominations. 


Credit Cards :  Virtually all major credit cards are accepted in medical facilities as they are also accepted in shopping malls, restaurants, hotels and supermarkets across Thailand.


ATM Machines : Thousands of 24-hour ATM machines exist thoughout Thailand and most have English instructions.  International ATM cards may be used at most ATM’s.


Banking Services and ATM Locations in Thailand

Banks are usually open from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm weekdays in central urban locations and may be open up to 8 pm in the major shopping malls, including weekends.

Banks are closed on Thai holidays including Song Kran (13th-15th of April) and New Years.  Travelers need to follow the Thai calendar to ensure plans will not coincide with a Thai holiday.
